Two artists. One vision. Infinite movement.
Omar Lopez brings an explosive fusion of Salsa On1, On2, and Afro-Cuban foundations to every class he teaches.
Known for his precision in partner connection and his magnetic musicality, Omar's teaching style is direct, energetic, and deeply encouraging. He has performed and taught at international congresses in Madrid, Paris, London, and Miami.
Tatiana Bonaguro is the artistic soul of Tropical Gem — an Italian-born dancer whose mastery of body movement and feminine styling has made her one of the most sought-after instructors in the European Latin dance scene. Her workshops on body isolation and expression consistently sell out within hours.
With a background rooted in contemporary dance, flamenco, and sensual salsa, Tatiana brings a rare depth to her teaching. Her approach is holistic: movement that lives not just in the feet, but in every cell of the body.
These workshops are designed for intermediate to advanced dancers who already have a foundation in salsa (On1 or On2) and are looking to deepen their technique, partner connection, and body movement vocabulary. If you've been dancing consistently for at least 1–2 years, you'll thrive here. Absolute beginners may find the pace challenging, but passionate newcomers are always welcome to give it a try.
Absolutely. Day Passes are available for either July 20 or July 21, covering both sessions (7–8 PM and 8–9 PM) on that evening. You can also purchase a Single Workshop ticket if you'd like to attend just one of the four sessions. Each session is self-contained, so you won't miss essential context by choosing one night.
Wear comfortable, breathable clothing you can move freely in. Bring your Latin dance shoes — suede-soled heels or flats for followers, Latin shoes for leads. If you don't have dance shoes, clean indoor sneakers are acceptable. Bring a water bottle, a small towel, and good energy. The studio has a change room on site.
Dance Code YYC is located at 618 36 Ave NE, Calgary. Street parking is available on surrounding streets at no charge during evening hours. There is also a small parking lot adjacent to the building. We recommend arriving 15–20 minutes early to allow time for parking, check-in, and a light warm-up before the session begins.
Tropical Gem is in Canada for the first and possibly only time. Secure your spot before Tier 1 is gone — prices increase as we get closer to the event.
